Allahabad High Court Rejects Rahul Gandhi’s Plea Over Sikh Turban Remarks

National News: The Allahabad High Court has refused Rahul Gandhi's request, giving the green light for a legal case against him over his controversial remarks on the Sikh community. Rahul Gandhi had filed a petition to challenge a Varanasi special court order that had accepted a revision petition against him. With the High Court rejecting his plea, the revision case can now move forward in the Varanasi MP/MLA court. On July 21, 2025, the Varanasi MP/MLA Court approved a revision petition against Rahul Gandhi, which he subsequently challenged in the High Court. The case stems from comments he made during a three-day trip to the United States, where he stated that Sikhs in India are allegedly not allowed to wear turbans or the kara (steel bracelet) and are restricted from entering gurdwaras.

Rahul Gandhi’s Statement Abroad

During an event in Virginia in 2024, Rahul Gandhi stated that the struggle in India is about whether Sikhs will have the right to wear turbans, wear the kara, or enter gurdwaras. He added that this fight is not only for Sikhs but concerns all religious communities.

Legal Proceedings Against Rahul Gandhi

The case filed against him on November 28, 2024, was first rejected by the MP/MLA Court following a hearing. Afterwards, Nageshwar Mishra filed a revision petition in the Varanasi Sessions Court, which was accepted by the Special Judge (MP/MLA Court) on July 21, 2025. Rahul Gandhi contested this decision in the Allahabad High Court, which delivered its judgment on September 3 after hearing arguments from both parties.
